PATRONAGE AND THE MUSEUM COLLECTION:
A HALF-CENTURY OF GIFTS

September 13 – November 1, 2008

Occupying the Calvert and Spitaleri Galleries, Patronage and the Museum Collection serves as a complement to Celebrating 50 Years: Recent Gifts to the Academy Art Museum. With just over twenty works, the Academy Art Museum has selected a fraction of its collection to underscore the generosity of donors to the Museum over its 50-year history.

While this exhibition represents only a cross section of previous generosity, it includes works given by Berlin Vorhees, Bennard Perlman, Grover Batts, and Donald & Ruth Saff, to name several of the most generous patrons who have donated art to the Museum. Together, they and other patrons formed a core group of American and European works on paper including well-recognized pieces by James A. M. Whistler, Walt Kuhn, Arthur Bowen Davies, James Rosenquist and many more.
