Old Master Paintings: Narratives for Inspiration

February 25 - April 10, 2011

Borrowed from a Washington D.C. collection and curated by Brian Young and Erik Neil, this exhibition focuses on European paintings, including French, Italian, and Flemish, from the 16th – 18th centuries.

The exhibition explores narrative themes including religious subject matter, portraiture, mythology and history. In addition, the exhibition examines issues of connoisseurship, standard studio practices, and the laborious process of painting during that broad period.

Believed to be the first exhibition devoted to old master paintings in Easton, this show features important works by Bertholet Flémal, Daniel van Heil, Francesco Altobello, Giovanni Battista Pittoni and others.

To document this historic exhibition in Easton, there will be an audio tour, curator led tours, extended label explanations, a brochure and other educational opportunities.
