Making Art: Explorations in Process explores the artistic process by tracing numerous creative paths from preliminary drawings to final works. To document such courses of action, there are studies, drawings, sketches, maquettes and photographs. The purpose is to help visitors get a deeper appreciation of what it takes to make a work of art. This exhibition concentrates on American art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Ranging from the sculpture of Kenneth Snelson to the notebooks of Jamie Wyeth to the painting of Gene Davis, this important exhibition will borrow from prestigious institutions in the mid-Atlantic region including the National Gallery of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Brandywine River Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
