Stanley Hayter, Facile Proie (Easy Prey), 1938, etching,
Academy Art Museum, Gift of Col. Stephen McCormick
Through the winter, the Spitaleri Galleries will feature several of the museum’s most prominent works of art from its collection including Anne Truitt’s Hesperides, a richly colored canvas with its allusions to the Eastern Shore’s low horizon. This piece is complemented by Gene Davi’s Bubblegum, 1970, a typical stripe painting by one of the original founders of the Washington Color Painters.
In addition, the museum will rotate out a selection of prints, drawings, photographs and culpture. Over the coming months, visitors can expect to see works by Robert Rauschenberg, Stanley William Hayter, May Wilson, James Rosenquist, Richard Tuttle, Lorna Simpson and other artists from the Vogel collection.
